Cas has been working at Sioux since 2024 as a Software Engineer with a clear focus on embedded software, which is where his interest and passion lie. After studying Electrical Engineering, he completed his master in Embedded Systems at the University of Twente. While his studies mostly involve short-term assignments, Sioux gives Cas the opportunity to apply his knowledge in practice and continue developing himself.
Cas: ‘So far, I’ve mainly been involved in an internal project. We’re working on setting up a framework for IoT devices. This will allow us to approach clients with a kind of standard solution, where we only need to make small adjustments to get it up and running. That saves a lot of time because we won’t have to reinvent the wheel for every client.’
‘What I enjoy most about this project is that it’s internal, which makes it feel like a real learning environment. You’re not tied to client requirements, so there’s a lot of freedom to experiment. Things like: ‘Let’s test this’ or ‘Could this work?’, and you actually get the space to try it out. That really suits me, as I often have those kinds of ideas. It’s great to be supported in bringing those ideas to life. That freedom and trust are incredibly motivating.’
Room to grow
‘At Sioux, you’re really given space to think about where you want to be in the future. The initiative must come a bit from yourself: what would you like to do, and where do you want to develop? If you have a vision, they’re happy to think along with you. Together, you look at whether your ambitions align with what’s possible at Sioux. Maybe there’s already a project you can join, or they can connect you with someone who has the experience you’re looking for. As a starter, I’ve really benefited from that. Experienced colleagues are happy to share their knowledge, offer practical tips, and point out relevant training opportunities. Their real-world do’s and don’ts are also very valuable.’
‘The strength of the company lies in its people.’
‘Sioux has always supported me and given me a lot of space. They’re genuinely understanding, which is not something you find everywhere. At Sioux, people come first, and the strength of the company lies in its people. You can trust one another and collaborate without strict rules or a manager constantly watching over your shoulder. That creates peace of mind and the confidence to do your job well.’
‘Whether you’re a starter or a manager, everyone treats each other as equals.’
‘I find the working atmosphere at Sioux very positive. You work with great people who all share an interest in technology. That leads to meaningful conversations, everyone has experience or personal hobby projects they’re enthusiastic about. The atmosphere is also very social and approachable. Colleagues are easy to reach, and starting a conversation is simple. What I also appreciate is that there’s no noticeable strict hierarchy. Whether you’re a starter or a manager, everyone interacts with each other equal.’
