Kameleon Solar develops solar panels with printed ink to improve their visual appeal, enabling their use in visible applications such as building facades. The development of these panels introduces several mathematical and technical challenges, including accurate color translation of ink onto panels and optimizing power output. Additionally, Kameleon Solar aims to realize an automated, efficient, and error-free multicolor PV (photovoltaic) factory, which requires robust and scalable solutions.
Within the OPZuid subsidy project ‘Circular Multicoloured Facade PV Factory’, Sioux Technologies contributes its expertise in image processing and optimization. Sioux has developed advanced software for generating printing recipes for single- and multi-color images on glass. This software determines the optimal printing strategy by balancing contrast, brightness, and the capabilities of the printing technology. It also includes printer calibration functionality to accurately reproduce colors. Furthermore, Sioux has contributed to the development of a color ladder functionality within the Solar Suite, enabling architects to easily generate and visualize multicolor previews in a user-friendly way. In addition, Sioux focuses on enabling early-stage quality inspection of colored solar panels within the future automated PV factory.
The collaboration has resulted in software solutions that support accurate and efficient multicolor printing on solar panels, improving both visual quality and production reliability. These developments contribute to the realization of an automated PV factory and enable broader adoption of aesthetically enhanced solar panels in architectural applications.
